Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

On this post I will soon write about today’s meeting with first the NRA, thereafter an interesting talk about consumer rights and global trade, and last, but definately not least, a meeting at IPS about the waron drugs. All very interesting ready for peepz interested in politics, guns, drugs, and other cool stuff. It’ll be here soon- keep an eye out :)

Monday lecture

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

Every Monday we get the opportunity to meet people who are experts in their fields.
Today, we met first with Berry Jacobs from the American Jewish Committee. He told us about the influence of Israel and Jews in general on US (especially foreign) policy. There’s a big discussion on that sensitive issue in US right now as an article claiming that Israel more or less has dictated US policy in the Middle East the last many years. He also ‘admitted’ that Jews in general are smarter and wealthier :-)

The second speaker was Richard Perle aka ‘the Prince of Darkness’. He is one of the prominent neo-cons and is seen as one of the top architects behind the Iraq war. He was a very sympathetic guy, however, and stated that he is in fact not against international law as such, he just doesn’t believe in the UN… Hmm…

We ended with a lecture on the ‘race issue’ in US. John McWhorter is an African American scholar who emphasizes the focus on culture among especially African American men from 14-30 instead of structural, societal explanation when trying to deal with the obvious problem of a disproportionate large amount of this group being involved in crime instead of the labor market. Definately an interesting approach, which he apparantly has gotten a lot of complaints about from the leftist establishment in the US (if there is a such).

Life in DC is sweet on a day like this..!
